Cafe life in Sofia

Cafe in Sofia This was the Cold War era, and Sofia was full of tourists from the communist bloc countries. During the day, cafe life was typical of a southern European city.

However at night the East German tourists preferred their own culture. The hotel where we had dinner had a vast smoke-filled barroom which was full of East Germans quaffing beer as if they were in a Munich beerkeller.
