Cafe in Sofia
This was the Cold War era, and Sofia was full of tourists from the communist bloc countries.
During the day, cafe life was typical of a southern European city.
However at night the East German tourists preferred their own culture.
The hotel where we had dinner had a vast smoke-filled barroom which was full of East Germans quaffing beer as if they were in a Munich beerkeller.
