Landslide in central Turkey

We spent the night at the Otel Gez in Erzurum, and our next major destination was Istanbul. There were two options. We could follow the northern route along the Black Sea, or head across central Turkey via Sivas and Ankara.

The northern route had superior roads, and we had been warned that passing through central Turkey could be almost impossible once the autumn rains began. There were frequent landslides which could delay travellers for days.

But it was still summer and we took our chances and headed for Sivas in central Turkey. A sense of adventure won out over common sense.

We soon found that the warnings about landslides in central Turkey were not exaggerated. We encountered them several times, but fortunately none were too serious that we couldn't get through.
