Sunset over Lake Urmia in Azarbaijan

There was still about 75km to go when we reached Lake Urmia and the sun was already setting. Fortunately we were now on decent roads again.

At the time we were there Lake Urmia was known as Lake Rezaiyeh. It is in the Azarbaijan region of Iran, and we passed it on our way to Tabriz.

Lake Urmia is a salt water lake about 140 kilometres (87 miles) long and 55 kilometres (34 miles) wide. It seperates the cities of Urmia (formerly Rezaiyeh) in West Azarbaijan and Tabriz in East Azarbaijan. A bridge across the lake connecting Urmia with Tabriz is scheduled for completion in 2006.
