Heading north from Kermanshah
We had left Kermanshah and were heading north towards Tabriz.
It was to be the longest stage of the journey in Iran,
The route was about 520 kilometres or 325 miles long,
and between Saghez and Miandoab there was about 90 kilometres
of gravel road to contend with.
The scenery in Iran is striking. Everything looks barren and burnt out
- especially at the end of summer when this photograph was taken -
but then there is a splash of bright green where a village has grown up around an oasis or a stream.
