FLYING FORBIDDEN FLAGS
SYNOPSIS
FLYING FORBIDDEN FLAGS is a thriller set during the period immediately following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
In his student years Malcolm Richardson became involved in the radical politics of 1960s Britain.
He was a staunch supporter of CND and was well known in the trendy circles of Hampstead socialism.
However, unlike his chattering-class friends, he moved from talking about the revolution to participation.
Within a few years he had graduated to full time terrorist with links to the PLO and the Red Army Faction.
But now times have changed.
The Berlin Wall has fallen, and the old socialist comradeship has gone. In the remnants of the Soviet bloc,
Government agencies are busy whitewashing their image, and Malcolm Richardson is now seen as a potential threat.
He is a man who knows too much, and within the heart of the KGB an old associate is plotting his demise.
This book was well received at the time it was written, and was actively considered by a major publishing house.
They hung on to it for a considerable period, but it was eventually declined.
It was deemed to be
'a good example of the genre' but due to economic conditions they were unwilling
'to launch yet another thriller writer on to this crowded scene' although the author was
'obviously talented'.
The bottom dropped out of cold-war thrillers shortly afterwards,
so they were probably wise. - No comfort to the author though!
