Cruise ship on the Yangtze River at Wuhan
This is one of Yangtze river cruise ships that plied between Wuhan and Chongqin in the 1980s.
Since that time, like cruise ships the world over, most of the cruise ships in use on the Yangtze have improved considerably in facilites and quality,
and of course are geared for Western tourists.
The main attraction of a Yangtze cruise is the section where the Yangtze passes through the area known as the Three Gorges.
This photograph shows a strange combination of images. On the Yangtze capitalist cruise ships ply their trade,
while on the building a vast sign proclaims "The thoughts of Marx and Lenin".
Unfortunately because of delays between Xian and Chengdu caused by flash floods,
our tour was behind schedule and we had had to forego the Yangtze river cruise that
had been on our original itinerary.
We never saw Chengdu, Chongqin, or the Three Gorges, and our first sight of the mighty Yangtze was at Wuhan.
