A large Yangtze River Three Gorges cruise ship at Wuhan
This is one of the larger Yangtze river cruise ships that plied between Wuhan and Chongqin in the 1980s.
As explained in the previous photograph, the main attraction of a Yangtze cruise
is the section where the Yangtze passes through the area known as the Three Gorges between
Chongqin and Wuhan. The name Three Gorges is somewhat misleading as there are many gorges
on this stretch of the river.
The full name, the Three Great Gorges of the Yangtze River, is more accuarate.
These are the Qutang Gorge, the Wu Gorge, and the Xiling Gorge.
Unfortunately our tour was behind schedule and we had had to forego the Yangtze river cruise that had been on our
original itinerary, and so we never saw Chengdu, Chongqin, or the Three Gorges, and our first sight of the Yangtze was at Wuhan.
