From Wuhan we travelled to Guangzhou (Canton) in Guangdong province, South China.
This was the only leg of the journey where we travelled 'soft class', i.e., normal European standard.
It was luxury after the nights we had spent travelling hard class across northern China.
We stayed at the Dong Fang hotel in Guangzhou - again a welcome change from our usual accomodation.
One day was spent sightseeing in Guanzhou, including a boat trip on the Pearl river,
and a further day was spent at Cong Hua, about two hours drive away.
Cong Hua is a renowned beauty spot, famous for its hot springs, flowering plants, and stands of bamboo.
It is located just north of the Tropic of Cancer.
The next day we travelled by rail to Hong Kong.
Everybody commented on the change of pace. Hong Kong seemed frenetic compared to the tranquil pace of Mainland China.
We were back in the world of the Yankee dollar.
After one night in Hong Kong the group broke up and everybody departed by various airlines for Europe.
