Thwarting demons on the Sacred Way
This photograph was taken where the Sacred Way turns to the right in accordance with traditional geomancy.
According to Chinese mythology, demons can only turn to the left.
Note the gryphons guarding this stretch of the Sacred Way and the statues of mandarins at the far end.
This photograph was taken on a visit organised by Renmin University.
