Stone camel

The young lady on the stone camel is Elizabeth Langstone, the youngest European student at Renmin Daxue that summer.

None of the statues along the Sacred Way or the Avenue of Animals looked particularly old, and are presumably modern restorations. Many antiquities in China were restored in the Nineteenth Century, and few originals remain.

This photograph of the stone camel was taken on a visit organised by Renmin University.
