Jade Isle and White Dagoba, Bei Hai Park
Bei Hai is adjacent to the Forbidden City and was originally a private park for the Emperor and his family. It is now a public park.
The White Dagoba is situated on Jade Isle in Bei Hai lake.
The White Dagoba was built by Shun Zhi in 1651 to commemorate the first visit to Beijing of the Dalai Lama of Tibet.
In Imperial days Tibet was a client state of China, and both the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama had palaces in Bejing.
