Sheikhdom of Umm Al-Quwain

Umm Al-Quwain This photograph was taken on a trip to Umm Al-Quwain when I was based in Sharjah. The town of Umm Al-Quwain is not far from Sharjah, and at the time was quite small. Umm Al-Quwain was one of the Trucial States and is now a member of the United Arab Emirates.

Like all the Gulf Sheikdoms, Umm Al-Quwain owes its original existence to a creek which provided harbourage for fishing boats and trading dhows.
