International Aeradio Ltd Landrover on Sharjah-Dubai road

Sharjah can be seen in the distance. The normal 'road' to Dubai was on the flat plain along the coast, but we were taking a shortcut across the sand dunes. Gary, a fellow IAL employee, is at the wheel.

The Sharjah-Dubai road was in fact only the natural sand. It appeared a metallic blue-grey because of all the vehicles that used it, the colour coming from exhaust fumes, rubber from tyres, and of course oil. The sea frequently swept inland to cover the road, in which case the shortcut over the sand dunes became a neccessity.
